Day 2: All the Way to ABQ

Hello, again!

Today has been a very fun day! Being settled in by 6 PM was also great. However, it's only 8:35 PM in Albuquerque, and I'm almost ready to go to bed. We started out going from Oklahoma City, OK, to Amarillo, TX, which covers the first blog entry today. After Amarillo, we kept heading west on I-40 toward Albuquerque. What we didn't realize is all of the amazing things on the way from Amarillo to Albuquerque. Before we hit Amarillo, we saw what some signs said was Palo Duro Canyon from a rest area. It was beautiful! After Amarillo, though, there were many more canyon and mountain-like structures to see. With both of us being from Indiana, and me only being out West once, we were VERY excited to see all of this. One thing I kept saying was, "why haven't I been here before?" Needless to say, the Texas Panhandle and northern New Mexico definitely didn't disappoint. :) After arriving in Albuquerque, we found a hotel near the airport, since Russ will be flying back home after accompanying me most of the way on my journey. I am so thankful to have a friend like him to travel with me. He made it entertaining, even if he was asleep most of the time. ;) We went to dinner at a restaurant called Cervantes, which had some great Mexican food. I had the seafood enchiladas, and Russ had the taco plate. We both loved the sopapillas with honey, which were basically like fried biscuits. Now, it's time to crash. I'm exhausted, and we both have an early morning. I'll update as soon as I can when I get to the school!
We are told this was Palo Duro Canyon. It was very windy.

In front of some rocks at a picnic area.
Sweet rock face.
A house of some sort... we saw two of these.
Storm cloud over the road. We just got a little sprinkle.
Mountains just outside of Albuquerque.

Another mountain.

You can see the mountains in the rear-view mirror while driving around the city.
